“The Long Step” inhabits a physical space that despite its small Brooklyn size, evolves into a labyrinthian chaos. Walls, the hallway, doorways start out as stable frames, but eventually bisect and oppress Mia. She spirals into a increasingly circuitous path to leave: searching for items in the kitchen, bedrooms, closet—food, a Metro Card, a sock— while her mother begs for help and as her father pursues his own topsy-turvy goals.
We designed and shot the APARTMENT to feel cluttered in a way appropriate to Vittorio’s former life as a Brooklyn College professor of history.
